Olympians set to wrest control of MHA
New Delhi, June 24: Olympians Gurbux Singh, Joaquim Carvalho and M.M. Somaya joined hands in their bid to wrest control of hockey in Mumbai by filing their nominations for the upcoming elections to the Mumbai Hockey Association.
The trio are ready to take on the sitting group’s candidates, with incumbent secretary Kehar Singh at the forefront, at the elections next Monday.
“We want to throw out Kehar Singh and his cronies,” said 1984 Olympian Carvalho on Wednesday. He has filed his nomination for the post of secretary as well as for the nine-member managing committee.
Also in the fray for the secretary’s post are Gurbux, former inside right and member of the 1968 Mexico Olympics bronze-winning squad, and his one-time colleague in the mercurial frontline of Western Railway team, Puran Singh.
Both Carvalho and Puran are expected to withdraw their nominations by June 27 leaving Gurbux in a straight contest with incumbent Kehar Singh.
