Stick2hockey.com’s Live Text Commentary a roaring success
Hockey fans from about 600 cities, cutting across the globe, accessed stick2hockey.com’s Live Text Commentary of the Punjab Gold Cup. Significantly, about 60 percent of these cities are first time visitors to the site.
Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Auckland (New Zealand), separated by 20,000 KMs from each other, top the cities visited the site, with around one thousand hits on each match days. California in the United States and Dusseldorf (Germany) are third and fourth, respectively.
It is amazing visitors came from 92 cities in Netherlands alone.
On the match days, the traffic to the site increased 6 to 8 fold than the normal, proving worth of all the hardwork that went behind the s2h’s initiative. Due to heavy traffic, the site crashed on the third day and also during the second half of the Final played on last Monday. We assure we take care of this in future.
This site webcast text commentary of all 14 matches of the Punjab Gold Cup, in which Germany, Netherlands, India and New Zealand participated.
Some National Federations like New Zealand displayed the text commentary at their official website, which attracted tremendous visitors inflow to s2h.
The organizers of the tournament, in particular Play Sports — who managed the event — too helped extensively to popularize the site, by displaying banners inside the stadium, on the turf sidelines. We at s2h also distributed a few thousand pamphlets and posters in order to improve the site visibility.
For the first time since the site came into being in the early 2000s, visitors from Chandigarh outnumbered other metros like Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. Another first is visitors from India fell behind combined visitors from rest of the world. Thanks hockey lovers, thanks Non Resident Indians.
As a visitor put it in the feedback section of the s2h, the texts came in for handy at work places, homes and hotels, where telecast of the matches were not available in India. “Due to my son’s exams, we could not put on the television, still I could silently follow the match through internet, thanks to stick2hockey.com” the visitor wrote in the feedback.
Another indirect benefit includes media. Some of whom need not wait for the agency report, but prepared their own based on the texts in the commentary, for some these texts helped to compare and improve their copies.
The success gives us more responsibility; motivated to innovate and serve you all more, more ways than one. Commentary is a new territory for us, hopefully we will cover more tournaments, and add new features.
Last but not least — Thanks George (fieldhockey.com), thanks Jaap Suyk (www.hoofdklassehockey.nl) and NZHF.
