Sub-Jr M (A Div): Haryana, Odisha makes big wins

20 May 2015, New Delhi: The 5th Hockey India Men Sub-Junior National Championship – Div. A continued to witness intense battles on the field as teams registered wins in their name. In Pool A, Hockey Odisha taking on Sports Authority of India saw the former dominating the entire sessions as they went on to win 9-0. In another match in the same pool, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy edged past Hockey Manipur by 5-3. In Pool B, Hockey Haryana beat Delhi Hockey 9-2 and Uttar Pradesh Hockey defeated Hockey Mizoram by 4-2.



The day started with the Pool A match between Hockey Odisha and Sports Authority of India with the former dominating the entire session as they went on to register a 9-0 win with the help of Pradeep Lakra’s spectacular four goals and brilliant braces from Sudhir Kujur and skipper Amit Chirmako. Hockey Odisha going on immediate attack and started building the pressure on the opponents and a field goal by Sudhir Kujur in the 16th minute opened the scorecard in their favour. The score was immediately increased by 3-0 through two back-to-back goals from Pradeep Lakra. High on confidence, Hockey Odisha’s Bikash Kujur sneaked into opponent’s half and hit the ball into the goal-box. Leading by four goals, Odisha kept on attacking towards SAI’s defence-line and Pradeep (39th and 44th minute) and Sudhir (41st min) added three more goals in the score-line. In the last quarter of the match, skipper Amit led the charge from the front and scored two marvelous goals in 46th and 48th minute to help his team to win the match by a huge margin of 9-0.

In another match in Pool A, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA) edged past Hockey Manipur by 5-3 with the help of Mohd Alishan’s outstanding hat-trick. MPHA dominated the match from the first minute and Mohd. Alishan scored the first goal in the 11th minute to take early lead. However, their joy was short-lived as Hockey Manipur earned a penalty corner, which was perfectly converted by Mani Huidrom to level the score-line 1-1. MPHA stroke back quickly and Altamash Mohd and Alishan scored two consecutive goals in 34th and 38th minutes respectively. However, Hockey Manipur continued their attacking game and replied back with two goals by Mani and Ibungo in 50thand 57th minutes of the match respectively to equalise the score 3-3. After conceding two goals within 10 minutes, MPHA fought back and Alishan and skipper Ameen Khan score two more goals in 66th and 68th minutes respectively to win the match by 5-3.

In the Pool B match, Hockey Haryana outplayed Delhi Hockey by 9-2 with the help of inspiring braces from Abhishek, Vishal Antil and Naveen. It was Delhi Hockey who drew the first blood in the 5th minute of the match when Keshav Tyagi stormed into Hockey Haryana’s half and sent the ball into the net to take the early lead. After conceding the goal, Hockey Haryana charged back and scored goals in regular intervals. In the 8th minute, Abhishek equalised the scorecard with his brilliant field work and in the 14th minute, he helped his team to earn a penalty corner in 14th minute. Vishal took the shot and converted the penalty corner perfectly to take the score-line to 2-1. In the next few minutes, Hockey Haryana players played an aggressive game, which was led by substitute Naveen who scored two back-to-back goals in 17th and 19th minutes and extended the score to 4-1. In the 21st minute, Hockey Haryana earned another penalty corner, which was effectively converted by specialist Vishal. Riding with the confidence, Hockey Haryana’s Anurag and Sahil scored two more goals in 34th and 36th minutes respectively. Trailing by 1-7, Delhi Hockey counter-attacked in the 40th minute and skipper Gaganjeet Singh scored a stunning goal to reduce the margin by 2-7. Hockey Haryana players charged back again and this time Roman and Abhishek scored two marvellous goals in 68th and 69th minutes respectively. With the two goals in the last minutes, Hockey Haryana won the match by 9-2.

In the last match of the day in Pool B, Uttar Pradesh Hockey (UPH) defeated Hockey Mizoram by 4-2 with the help of Rahul Kumar Rajbhar’s brilliant brace. UPH drew the first blood in the 9th minute when Rahul Kumar entered in opponent’s D with his surprise attack and scored a spectacular goal to give an early lead to his team. After receiving the early jolt, Hockey Mizoram charged back and Lalrinawma and Lalchhantluanga scored two back-to-back goals in 26th and 34th minutes respectively to take lead by 2-1. Trailing by a goal, UP Hockey players stroke back and Rahul Kumar, Gopi Kumar Sonkar and Talib Mohd scored three consecutive goals in 51st, 55th and 62nd minute of the match. With the three goals in the last 11 minutes helped UP Hockey to win the match by 4-2.
