Sub-Jr Women’s (A Div) kicks off today

24th May 2015, Ranchi: The first day of the 5th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2015 (A DIVISION) saw teams looking at opening the tournament on a high. The first match between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Hockey Maharashtra saw the former register a convincing won of 3-1 over the latter. The second game for the day saw complete dominance by Hockey Punjab as they scored 23 goals to win the game by 23 -0. Followed was an excellent win for Hockey Jharkhand who defeated Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 7-1.

The match between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Hockey Maharashtra proved to be a one sided affair as the former won 3-1. Making its intentions clear from the start, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy maintained a good attack as they looked at the initial goal. It was in the 12th minute when they finally broke the deadlock as Neeraj Rana capitalized on the penalty corner opportunity. Just second left for the first half to end, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy doubled the lead as Ishika Chaudhary scored through a field effort and taking the score to 2-0. Looking at bouncing back, Hockey Maharashtra in the 42nd minute scored through a field effort from Rutuja Pisal, taking the score to 1-2. Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy added another goal in the 62nd before taking the game 3-1.

The second game for the day saw complete dominance by Hockey Punjab as they scored 23 goals to win the game by 23 -0.Not wasting time, Hockey Punjab started their goal scoring spree as early as the 3rd minute as Reet stood tall to score through her immensely brilliant field effort. This was immediately followed by another goal in the 6th minute as Amandeep Kaur was seen in action in the opponents D as she slammed the ball into the nets. 8th minute ringed the third goal for the team and this time it was Priyanaka who did not mistake in converting the penalty corner. 13th, 15th and 18thminute witnessed Punjab Hockey adding three more goals and taking the score to 6-0. Before going into the half time break Hockey Punjab added further goals to the scorecard and took a lead of 9-0. The second half saw a similar story where Hockey Punjab dominated and scored goals at regular intervals. They went on to score a grand 14 goals in the session before winning the game by 23 – 0. Hockey Rajasthan on the other hand while they tried to stop the opponents but failed to control the strong and well planned attack of Hockey Punjab.

The third clash of the day was a fruitful session for Hockey Jharkhand who stamped its victory against Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 7-1. Hockey Jharkhand made a very good start by scoring their first goal in the very 1st minute of the game which was a field goal coming from the sticks of Betan Dungdung. Uttar Pradesh Hockey was seen striving to open its account in the next few minutes. However, it was again Hockey Jharkhand who added to the scorecard with a penalty conversion by Albela Rani in the 17th minute of the game. Sangita Kumari from Hockey Jharkhand allowed the team to maintain a good lead with two back to back field goals in the 27th and 28th minute of the game. Not allowing the opponents a chance to retaliate, Hockey Jharkhand bagged another field goal in the 29th minute which was beautifully smashed by Sushma Kumari. Showing complete dominance, Hockey Jharkhand was leading by 5-0 by the end of the first half . It was in the 37th minute of the game that Uttar pradesh Hockey managed their first goal when Sonal Tiwari struck a field goal in support of the team. Maintaining consistency, Hockey Jharkhand earned two penalty corners in the 45th and 66th minute and which was converted by Alka Dungdung and Salima Tete allowing the team to register a win on the first day against Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 7-1.

The Pool B match between Bengal Hockey Association and Sports Authority of India will be held at 6:30 pm today.
