Hockey continues to captivate the spectators at the ongoing 5th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men National Hockey Championship-2015 (B Div.)

– Assam Hockey outshine Goans Hockey 9-0

– Hockey Bihar drubs Hockey Himachal 7-0

Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), 11 May 2015: The ongoing 5th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men National Hockey Championship-2015 (B Division) saw five powerful clashes between the favourites being played at the grounds of Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir.

The day began with a good win for Assam Hockey who trounced Goans Hockey 9-0 which was followed by a cut-throat competition between Hockey Himachal and Hockey Bihar where the former lost to the latter with a 7-0 margin. Standing tall in their defence, the third match of the day was named in favour of Hockey Patiala who defeated Hockey Gujrat by 8-1. In the fourth match, it was Hockey Puducherry who claimed a win over Hockey Rajasthan 8-1. The last clash of the day proved to be rewarding for Hockey Jammu & Kashmir who beat Vidarbha Hockey Association 6-0.

In their match against Goans Hockey, Assam Hockey thrashed them 9-0 with the help of Manish Sahani’s marvellous four goals along with two back to back goals by Nazrul Islam and Captain Dibyajyoti Biswas. Assam Hockey dominated the match from the first minute and in the 3rd minute they scored the first goal as a brilliant field goal by Manish Sahani bore result. In the 15th minute, Hockey Assam was awarded a penalty stroke which was effectively converted by Manish Sahani. The constant possession of the ball by Hockey Assam led to a brace by Nazrul Islam in the 22nd and 24th minute. By the end of first half another field goal by Manish Sahani in 32nd minute, took the team’s score to 5-0. Goans Hockey attacked with full intensity trying to break opposition’s defence but was no match for Hockey Assam’s superior game plan. In 55th minute Assam Hockey earned a penalty corner which was successfully converted by the captain, Dibyajyoti Biswas. In 59th and 61st minutes, field goals by Tapan Das and another successful conversion of penalty corner by the captain Dibyajyoti Biswas took the score to 8-0. Assam Hockey completely decimated Goans hockey with an effective conversion of a penalty corner by Manish Sahani, taking the final tally to 9-0.

In the Pool D match, Hockey Bihar claimed a thumping victory over Hockey Himachal by 7-0 with the help of Bhaskar Singh’s hat-trick. Hockey Bihar dominated form start and they earned a penalty corner in the 9th minute, which was successfully converted by Binit Ekka, thus scoring the opening goal against Hockey Himachal. In 15th minute, Anthony Mudu smashed a beautiful field goal past Hockey Himachal’s defence and this was followed by another goal in the 28th minute by Bhaskar Singh taking the tally to 3-0. In the second half, Hockey Himachal counter attacked trying to break past the opposition’s defence, but were no match for Bihar’s superior strategy. In 51st and 56th minutes, wonderful field goals by Paudeya Munda and Waqar Yunus took the score line to 5-0. Sensing a defeat, Hockey Himachal tried to make a comeback with Captain Sher Singh leading the charge but was blocked by the impenetrable line of defence of Hockey Bihar. Hockey Bihar sealed their victory by two field goals by Bhaskar Singh in 64th and 67th minutes taking the final score line to 7-0.

In a Pool C match, Hockey Patiala edged past Hockey Gujrat with an attractive margin of 8-1. While Hockey Gujrat were good at their defence and attack, Hockey Patiala proved to be a better team as they managed to sneak in 8 goals and kept the opponents at bay. The raining of goals started in the early minutes of the game when Gurshahzad Singh struck two back-to-back goals in the 2nd and 9th minute taking the lead to 2-0. Not wasting much time, Sandeep Kumar and Gurpreet Singh added two more goals to Hockey Patiala’s tally in the 10th and 11th minute respectively. Just when the first half was about to end, Hockey Patiala scored another goal and kept the first half in their favour at 5-0. The second half of the game saw the same spirit by Hockey Patiala as Gurshahzad Singh surged ahead and added the sixth goal for his team in the 42nd minute. Trailing by 6 goals, Hockey Gujrat increased their tempo of attack as they finally got success in the 51st minute as Manthan Patel did no mistake in deflecting a pass into the nets through a penalty corner conversion.

Another wonderful piece of action was displayed by Hockey Patiala when Gurpreet Singh and Gurveer Singh went on adding two goals in the 54th and 55th minutes respectively to make a sum of 8 goals, declaring a win for Hockey Patiala over Hockey Gujrat 8-1.

In the match between Hockey Puducherry and Hockey Rajasthan, it was Hockey Puducherry who outclassed Hockey Rajasthan 8-1. It was a highly intense game where Hockey Puducherry dominated the entire play whereas; Hockey Rajasthan found the going tough as the wining team continued raining goals. Dominating the early game, it was Hockey Puducherry who started its proceedings in the early five minutes of the game through C. Kirupa Ebinezer who took the lead to 1-0. For Hockey Puducherry it was S. Surjith who set the tone for team’s big win, netting four goals in the 9th, 25th, 33rd, and 69th minute. Putting constant forays into the rival area, Captain V. Vinodhan and R. Yokesh stood successful and contributed a goal each to the account of Hockey Puducherry. With the use of a penalty corner, R. Ranjith effortlessly converted a penalty corner in the 60th minute and scored the 7th goal for his team. The last minute saw tremendous action coming in from the side of Hockey Rajasthan when Danish Ashrafi Khokhar dextrously struck a consolation goal through a penalty corner conversion but eventually lost the match against Hockey Puducherry 1-8.<

Concluding the day with a win, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir thrashed Vidarbha Hockey Association 6-0. Dominating the entire match, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir got its first goal in the 21st minute from the stick of Captain Ramandeep Singh. The very next 22nd minute saw another goal from a penalty corner conversion by Nav Jote Singh who took the scores at 2-0. Despite of their desperate attempts to net the ball, Vidarbha Hockey Association failed to capitalize on any scoring opportunity. This made Hockey Jammu & Kashmir more confident to score more goals and it was Ramandeep Singh who struck a brace in the 50th and 53rd minute taking the team’s tally to 4-0. Duly supported by Vishal Sudan who scored the fifth goal for Hockey Jammu & Kashmir in the 61st minute, the 69th minute winning goal from Ramandeep Singh declared a convincing win for Hockey Jammu & Kashmir.
