Surjit Hockey: Railways entered the semis

With two straight wins, Indian Railways entered the semi-finals of 32nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament by beating Namdhari XI by 4-1 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here this evening.

In other matches, holders Indian Oil beat CRPF 3-2 in their first league encounter.

Earlier Army XI beat CAG Delhi by 4-3. CAG team is now out of the race of semis as earlier they lost their first match to Punjab Police by 1-3.

Anil Sharma DGM Punjab National Bank, Ajay Sadania Cluster head HDFC Bank and Olympian Varinder Singh introduced with the playing teams before the matches.

In the first match of the day IV, Army XI Delhi and CAG Delhi displayed fast hockey in the first half of the game. In 6th minute Armymen mounted pressure and their Binay Bhengra scored field goal (1-0). In 20th and 24th minutes CAG’s Imran Khan struck two goals to put his team in lead of 2-1. In 28th minute Army’s Binay Bhengra equalized (2-2). In 30th and 33rd minute Army’s Siraj AP and Biraj Ekka scored two goals to get lead (4-2). At half time Army XI was leading by 4-2. After lemon break CAG team mounted pressure to reduce the lead they scored the from the stick of Mahendra Kumawat (3-4).

In second match Holders Indian Oil Mumbai dominated the proceeding against CRPF Delhi from the word go. They took lead in the 13th minute of the play Olympian Prabhjot Singh scored the field goal (1-0). In 27th minute Oilmen’s Vikas Sharma consolidated from penalty corner (2-0). After changing ends CRPF dominated the game. IN 44th and 48th minute of the play their Saroj Ekka scored two

In the third match Indian Railways Delhi and Namdhari XI started on very fast note. In the 20th minute of the play Indian Railways’s Malik Singh sounded the board (1-0). In 28th minute of the play Railmen’s Amit Rohidas converted the penalty corner to extend the lead (2-0). At half time Indian Railways was leading by 2-0. In second half’s 53rd minute Amit Rohidas converted penalty corner for Indian Railways (3-0). In 55th minute Namdhari’s able to reduce the margin when Harpreet Singh scored the field goal (1-3). In dying minutes of the match Indian Railways completed the tally, when Amit Rohidas converted the last penalty corner (4-1).
