Synthetic Polyprolene Turf at GNDU

AMRITSAR: The need of hour is to develop more sports personal and infrastructure for

the benefit of masses instead of building religious places by our religious leaders.

These views were expressed by Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, Union Minister of State for

Youth Affairs and Sports while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly

upgraded Synthetic Hockey Polyprolene Turf here today at the Sri Guru Hargobind

Hockey Stadium of the Guru Nanak Dev University. He inaugurated the Synthetic Hockey

Polyprolene Turf stadium by cutting the ribbon at the entry to the turf.

He said that this Synthetic Hockey Surfaces has been installed at Guru Nanak Dev

University, Amritsar at a cost of Rs. 396 lacs and another one at PAP Ground,

Jalandhar at a cost of Rs. 335 lacs which would be completed by the end of October

2010. He said that SAI is also putting one Synthetic Athletic Track in Tarn Taran at

cost of Rs. 494 lacs which would be completed by the end of year.

Dr. Gill said that the old synthetic hockey surface dismantled from Guru Nanak Dev

University would be used at four training centers i.e. Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran,

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar and Gurdaspur.

At these places, these Polyprolene Turf would be used for training purpose, he added.

He said that with the completion of two new hockey surfaces and one athletic track,

Sports Authority of India would be completing installation of total four Synthetic

Hockey Surfaces, two at NS National Institute of Sports, Patiala, one at Guru Nanak

Dev University, Amritsar. Similarly, one at PAP Ground, Jalandhar and three Synthetic

Athletic Tracks two at NS National Institute of Sports, Patiala and one at Tarn

Taran, he added.
