Alloysius Edwards may be manager of World Series Hockey League

It’s an honour to work with Roelant Oltmans, he says

For someone who never got his due, 1996 Atlanta Olympics Indian goalkeeper Alloysius Edwards has something to cheer in the twilight of his career.

Alloysius will be one of the managers of the high-profile World Series Hockey (WSH) League starting from December 17.

Alloysius, who works as a branch manager in Punjab & Sind Bank, in all probability will join the Delhi team, which has Dutchman Roelant Oltmans as the head coach and Darryl d’ Souza and Gavin Perreira as assistant coaches.

In a communication to him on Monday, the WSH officials have hinted that he would be required to travel with the team from time to time. “Yes, it is a huge honour to work with someone like Oltmans who is a fantastic coach besides, being a truly wonderful player of his time,” the former India star said. Though the future is clearly uncertain as far as WSH is concerned, Alloysius is not too worried. “What has appealed to me is the WSH officials’ sincerity in ensuring that past players are given their due,” he says. “I look at this as another opportunity to work for the success of my team,” he adds.
