Bangalore: Bopanna and Naresh scored a brace each as BEML defeated MEG 7-6 in the Field Marshall K.M. Cariappa Memorial hockey tournament semifinals at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday evening. Kalappa, Nagalinga and Ramesh also scored for the victor while Sahayam (2), Kiran, Poovamma, Rajesh and Dinesh Tirkey chipped in for MEG.

In the other semifinal, ASC defeated HAL 1-0 with S. Tutti scoring.

Semifinalists spotted

At Madikeri, Wanderers (Madikeri) will take on Hathur Youth Club while Kakotparambu Sports and Recreation Club will meet Cooperative Sports Club (Murnad) in the semifinals of the annual Nestle-Kodagu Cup hockey tournament at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) grounds here.

In a keenly contested match on Friday, Wanderers scraped past a fighting Forestsiders from Kanur by a 3-2 margin in the morning. The winning goal came via a golden goal after the teams were level 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.

Goals came from Subbaiah (10th), Mandanna (27th) and Appaiah (golden goal) in the 11th minute of extra time. Muthappa (58th) and K.P. Roy (59th) scored for the loser.

In an exciting match played in the afternoon, Kakotparambu scored a hard fought 10-9 win over Ammathi Sports Club via sudden death.

The scores were 3-3 at the end of the regulation period. It was again 4-4 in the tie-breaker but Kakotparambu won in sudden death 3-2.

Murnad Cooperative Sports Club got the better of Pragathi (Hoddur) 3-2.

Hathur put paid to the hopes of BBC from Gonicoppa posting a 3-2 win.
