Bhopal college enters final

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru PG College, Bhopal, beat Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh, 2-1 in the semifinals of the SAIL 17th Nehru champion colleges hockey tournament at the MP State Women’s Hockey Academy, Kampoo, Gwalior, on Sunday.

Prince Yadav put the Bhopal team ahead in the 10th minute, but Rupinder Pal Singh equlaised eight minutes later for the Chandigarh team. Shailendra Singh Bundela converted a penalty corner ten minutes on resumption in the second half to clinch the match-winner.

In the other semifinal, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, asserted its strike power with a 5-2 victory over Desh Bhagat College, Bardwal, Patiala, after enjoying a 2-0 lead halftime.

Harwant Singh (2), Gagandeep Singh, Jaspreet Singh and Jaskaran Singh were the marksmen for the winner. Deepanshu scored both the goals, as a face saving exercise for the Patiala team.
