BPCL emerges on top
Madikeri: Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) emerged on top with 21 points to win the Super Division hockey league here on Sunday.
Army Red finished runner-up with 18 points while IOCL which was tied with SAI with 13 point each, finished third on better goal difference.
In the their last league match, BPCL scraped past a fighting Indian Oil Corporation by 2-1 with Sher Singh (41st) and Jarnail Singh (43rd) getting the goals. IOCL had scored first in the 38th minute of play through Karamjit.
Earlier in the day, Army Red put it past a fighting Fortis by 4-3 with E. Lakra scoring a brace (38th, 67th). Rajesh Lakra opened the account in the third minute while J. Kujur rounded off the tally in the 51st minute. For Fortis, Lalit Upadhyaya scored two goals (16th and 17th) while Muthanna reduced the margin in the 61st minute.
In the first match of the day, SAI romped home with two goals scored by Nitin Thimmaiah (26th and 43rd) while Aiyappa (44th) and Muddappa (45th) got the other goals to defeat Army Green by a 4-1 margin. For the losers, B. Bengra got the lone goal in the 41st minute. Tarun Thammanna, SAI goalkeeper, was adjudged the player of the championship.
