Cong. plea to Sports Ministry
NEW DELHI: Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said on Wednesday it was a matter of satisfaction that the needless and unfortunate controversy over hockey had been resolved and the players would return for practice from Thursday.
“It is unfortunate that such a stand-off should have taken place when India is poised to host the hockey World Cup and the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
Further, he said the Union Sports Ministry should take up this issue with utmost urgency and seriousness. It should give due regard and priority to the players. The federations, too, must talk to players to ensure that they were not forced to resort to strikes, he said. — Special Correspondent
