HI’s assistance to Baljit Singh

NEW DELHI: Hockey India on Friday presented a cheque of Rs. 2.5 lakh to goalkeeper Baljit Singh towards his “rehabilitation expenses” even as the Government claimed that his treatment was already on.

Baljit, who had met with a serious eye injury during a training camp in Pune in July last year, had been treated in the USA on Sports Ministry’s expenses.

The player had reportedly alleged that the Ministry did not help to complete his treatment.

However, Sports Authority of India (SAI) said Baljit’s treatment was being done as per doctors’ advice and he needed six-seven months rest.

“Whatever is needed for his treatment will be done. There is a panel of doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and whatever advice they give to improve his vision will be done,” SAI Joint Secretary Pravir Krishn said.

Krishn said the Sports Ministry had extended all possible help to Baljit, who had incurred expenses of Rs 35 lakh towards his treatment of his eye in the USA. — Sports Reporter
