Chennai: Brushing aside Australia’s security concerns for the forthcoming hockey World Cup in New Delhi, Hockey Australia’s CEO, Mark Anderson, said the country is “looking forward to participating in a successful event at the Hero Honda World Cup 2010. Hockey Australia is confident that India will host a successful, exciting and very welcoming World Cup event.”
Mr. Anderson added that “at this stage Hockey Australia are comfortable with the security plans that are being put in place for the World Cup and arrangements have been made for the team to travel to Delhi for the World Cup which starts on February 28.
“We understand that Delhi Police are enacting the necessary plans to ensure the safety of all competing teams.”
High priority
While conceding that “security of our team and staff is of utmost importance,” Mr. Anderson noted that “we are placing a high priority on security plans for this important international event. Hockey Australia continues to monitor the situation with the event organisers in Delhi, FIH and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the High Commission in Delhi.
“The feedback indicates that the plans are progressing well in preparation for the competing team’s arrival later this month.”
