India conceded a late goal to lose 3-2 to lower-ranked Malaysia and crashed out of the title race in the 24th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament here on Wednesday.

Faizaal Saari (17th min), Haziq Samsul (35th) and Shahrun Abdullah (58th) scored the goals to hand Malaysia its first win of the tournament after two consecutive defeats.

For India, Rupinder Pal Singh (20th, 51st) converted two penalty corners, but it was not enough to give new chief coach Paul van Ass his first win. With just one point from three games, India is out of the title race.
