India to get more tournaments

Chennai: The FIH has decided in principle to allot one major tournament (men or women) to India for the next four years.

This was among the several decisions taken during the two-day meeting of the Executive Board in New Delhi.

While expressing its appreciation for the conduct of the World Cup, the meeting debated on the strategic planning and governance of the federation.

The main discussion centred on evolving a new structure of the executive, and the recommendations are to be presented for ratification at the next Congress in Montreux (Switzerland) in November. It was agreed to reduce the size of the Executive Board.

The other issues related to designing the means to triple the gross revenue of the FIH between 2010 and 2016, raise the profile of the sport across the globe, enhance and rationalise the competition schedules, narrow down the performance gap between the top-level playing nations and the rest, and to strengthen governance and co-ordination for the FIH. The proposal to conduct a World Series from 2012 will be submitted to the EB at the next meeting in July this year. — Hockey Correspondent
