Indian women’s team confident
BANGALORE: The Chile-bound Indian women’s hockey is confident about its chances in the four-nation tournament, which begins on January 17.
“We have been training hard and we hope to perform well at Santiago,” said skipper Surinder Kaur.
The tournament will feature the host, Argentina and Italy. The Indian squad will move to Argentina for a four ‘Test’ series from January 25 to 28.
Chief coach MK Kaushik said the tour would vgie the Indian senior squad the much needed exposure. “IT will be a tough tournament given the standards of teams like Argentina,” he said.
He, however, does not feel that the squad lacks the bite in the absence of seniors like Jaswinder Kaur, Jasjeet Kaur, Saba Anjum and few others. “I don’t think it is going to affect the performance in a big way and moreover, they were not in the team as they did not figure in trials,” he added
The Indian junior squad, led by TH Ranjitha, is heading for Australia to participate in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival from January 14 to 18. The team has been training strenuously, under the watchful eyes of coaches Sandeep Somesh and YS Chouhan.
