Lyallpur Khalsa College triumphs
NEW DELHI: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, defeated Jawaharlal Nehru PG College, Bhopal, 2-0 after leading 1-0 at halftime in the final of the SAIL 17th Nehru Champion Colleges hockey tournament at the MP State Women’s Hockey Academy, Kampoo, Gwalior, on Monday.
Gagandeep Singh put the Jalandhar team ahead in the 27th minute and Ajay Kumar put the finishing touches with a goal in the 68th minute.
Gurvinder Singh of the Jalandhar team was adjudged the ‘man of the match’ and presented Rs.10,000.
Bonanza
The champion team was given Rs.96,000 and the runner-up got Rs.64,000.
The coach of the champion team Sanjeev Kumar was awarded Rs.8,000 and the coach of the runner-up Habib Hasan was given Rs.5,000.
Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh, defeated Desh Bhagat College, Patiala, 3-1 in the match for the third place, after trailing by a goal at halftime.
Rupinder Pal Singh, Harinder Singh and Mukul Bhargat scored the goals for the Chandigarh team which collected Rs.32,000 for finishing third. The team’s coach Dr. Manmeet Gill was given Rs.3,000.
Deepanshu scored the lone goal for the Patiala team in the 31st minute.
