Madikeri: Sports Authority of India (SAI) advanced to the next phase of the Super Division Hockey league matches being played here.

SAI scraped past Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) by 3-2 margin in the last match of the day, completing its engagements in the first phase. If finished with 17 points from five wins and two draws. Deepak Gajawad sounded the boards in the 4th and 69th minute while Nitin Thimmaiah scored off a penalty corner in the 65th minute. For MLI, Sunil Kumar (25th –penalty corner) and Ganesh Patil (42nd) scored.

In the first match Army Green swamped a hapless HAL by 6-1 margin. Romesh (40th and 53rd – penalty corner) starred for the winner scoring two goals. Illayaraja opened the account for the Armymen in the seventh minute of the game while Jagir scored a penalty corner goal in the 22nd minute. Manjith added another penalty corner goal in the 55th minute while Uthappa (63rd) rounded off the tally through another penalty corner. Rajesh scored the lone penalty corner goal for HAL in the 12th minute.

Army Green awaits the outcome of the match between Centre of Excellence and MEG tomorrow to book a berth to the next phase. — Correspondent
