The Hindu: Sain Dass school lifts Nehru Cup
Sain Dass AS Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar managed to edge past CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonepat 3-2 in the final of the 45th Nehru junior hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here.
The Jalandhar side went ahead early after Karajwinder Singh struck in the ninth minute but the lead was brief as Sudarshan Singh made no mistake in converting a penalty corner three minutes later to level scores.
Jalandhar went ahead again through Man-of-the-Match Dilpreet Singh and then increased the margin in the 48th.
Defence holds firm
The Sonepat boys did not give up, however, and kept attacking in waves but the Jalandhar defence held firm.
Mahipal reduced the margin in the 65th minute and the team created more chances but a desperate Jalandhar managed to avoid the equaliser to lift the title.
CAG, Navy advance
In the qualifying round knock-out games of the 53rd Nehru senior hockey tournament, CAG XI beat Delhi Hockey XI 3-0 and Indian Navy blanked RCF, Kapurthala 9-0 to move closer to the main draw of the competition.
