World Cup panel seeks OC guidance

NEW DELHI: The World Cup hockey organising committee has sought the guidance of the Organising Committee (OC), Commonwealth Games, in several organisational aspects regarding the tournament scheduled to be held here from February 28 to March 13.

The hockey panel, which is jointly chaired by International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Leandro Negre and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Suresh Kalmadi, has already recruited some volunteers and expects the OC to provide additional manpower and expert guidance.

This would also be a build-up exercise for the OC in gearing up for the Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Hockey India (HI) has all but given up any hope of holding its elections before the World Cup following the Mumbai High Court directive regarding three Maharashtra units.

The High Court had given HI six weeks to deal with the requests for affiliations from the Mumbai, Vidarbha and Maharashtra associations and ruled that elections would not be held before resolving the issue. — Special Correspondent
