Roy quits as BHA president

A STAFF REPORTER

Calcutta: On a day when Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi was arrested, J.B. Roy resigned as Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) president.

There is, however, no connection between the two incidents.

Roy, in fact, has been requesting the BHA to relieve him of his duties for the past six months. Now, despite fervent pleas from the association, Roy stands firm on his decision.

“I would like to take this opportunity to announce my resignation from the post of president of the BHA. I put this on record that I am resigning because of personal reasons,” Roy said in a statement.

Reacting to this news, BHA secretary Gurbux Singh said: “I hope he has a change of mind.”
