Indian Oil trounce BSF 5-1

Indian Oil Mumbai trounced Border Security Force Jalandhar 5-1 to register their second win in the league and become the first team to enter the semi finals of the 27th Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament being played here. The game began on a fast note with Indian Oil taking the lead. In the 5th minute of the game Indian Oil opened its account from a penalty corner conversion by Raghu Nath 1-0. In the 24th minute of play Roshan Minj scored a field goal to make it 2-0. Till half time winners were leading 2-0.

In the second, half once again Roshan Minj posted a field goal from the pass of Olympian Prabhjot Singh 3-0. In 54th minute of the game, Deepak Thakur struck from the third penalty corner (4-0). In 66th minute of the play Prabhjot Singh scored a lovely goal from the left flank (5-0). In the dying minutes of the game, BSF consolidated their lead and earned a penalty corner through the stick of Mukhjinder Singh to reduce the margin 1-5.

Meanwhile, in another match of the day star-studded Air India, Mumbai edged out Air Asia, Malaysia by 7-2 goals. Air India men displayed fast and controlled hockey under Olympian Dhanraj Pillay. In the 4th minute of the game Air Asia’s Amir Farid scored a goal to take the lead. However, Air India men mounted pressure on the rival team and scored their first goal in the 6th minute of the game to tie the score.

Air India men scored goals in 10th, 15th, 21st and 33rd minute of the game and gave a tough time to Air Asia men. In the second half, Dhanraj Pillay sounded the board in the 50th minute to take his team to 6-1. Malaysian boys reduced the margin, When Faiz Haumi scored from the left flank 6-2. In the 56th minute Air India’s Lalit scored a field goal for the final tally of 7-2.
