Ludhiana claims gold

Continuing their winning spree, Ludhiana bagged gold in the final of men’s hockey of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games defeating Jalandhar 4-2 at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here last evening.

Both the Ludhiana and Jalandhar teams were competitive and displayed good hockey skills. Jalandhar took the lead in the 21st minute when Sukmanjit Singh scored off a penalty-corner. Ludhiana scored an equaliser in the 24th minute, again off a penalty-corner from the stick of Harpreet Singh.

Jalandhar lost two golden chances to score in the 32nd and 33rd minutes. A minute later, Jalandhar’s star forward Jasjit Singh Kular consolidated their lead. At half-time Jalandhar were leading 2-1.
