Bombay take on Haryana in title clash

BANGALORE: Hosts Karnataka went down fighting to Bombay 1-3 in the first semifinal of the 56th IHF Senior National Women’s Hockey Championship at the KSHA Stadium on Wednesday.

Ranjeta Sanasam scored the first goal for Bombay in the 17th minute to put Karnataka on the back foot. Reena Ekka, then doubled the lead by netting one in the 33rd to add to the hosts’ pressure.

Karnataka returned with determination after the breather but couldn’t break Bombay’s resolve. The hosts’ hopes were dashed by Sarita Hanuman who scored the visitors’ third goal in the 50th. Munirathnamma pulled one back in the 56th for the hosts.

In the other semifinal, two goals each by Bharti (26th , 29th), Ramneek (36th, 45th) and Navneet (53rd, 68th) enabled Haryana outclass Bhopal 7-1 and make it to the title round.

Results: Bombay 3 (Ranjeta Sanasam 17th; Reena Ekka 33rd; Sarita Hanuman 50th) bt Karnataka 1 (Munirathnamma 56th); Haryana 7 (Bharti 26th, 29th; Ramneek 36th, 45th; Jatinder 42nd; Navneet 53rd, 68th) bt Bhopal 1 (Balvider Mehra 65th).
