Diwakar powers Fortis to a win against Army Green
BANGALORE: Diwakar Ram scored a brace to power Fortis to a convincing 4-2 win over Army Green in phase two of the Ozonegroup state super division hockey league championship on Tuesday.
In another match, Indian Oil thrived on three goals from VR Raghunath as they drubbed Maratha Light Infantry 5-0 while Bharat Petroleum routed MEG 4-1 with Tushar Khandker finding the net twice. Army Green went ahead in the sixth minute of the first half when Lavpreet Singh scored, but Diwakar Ram equalised in the 13th through a penalty corner.
Four minutes later, Army Green took the lead again when Suresh netted one to put Fortis on the backfoot. This was followed by 17 minutes of missed chances, but to Fortis’ delight, Gurjinder Singh netted the equaliser in the 34th.
The second half belonged to Fortis as they managed to make two more conversions, while their opponents were goalless.
Navdeep Singh scored in the 54th minute to help Fortis go 3-2 up and five minutes later Diwakar converted a penalty stroke to seal their win.
