Her story, an inspiration for many

BANGALORE: This hockey player’s story is rather awe-inspiring. And now, her 15-year-long battle with arthritis is chronicled for one and all to read. To celebrate it’s 15th anniversary, the Arthritis Foundation (India) AF(I) released former hockey player Jacquiline Colaco’s autobiography `Just me Jacqueline, On My Way’, at HOSMAT Hospital on Sunday.

The book is about the ups and downs this brave-heart encountered with this degenerative and disabling disease, and her determination to overcome and reach out to fellow sufferers through AF(I). Jacqueline, a rank holder in BCom, a former executive with Bank of Baroda, and a former India Women’s Hockey player, was struck with rheumatoid arthritis when she was 36. In fact, she typed the manuscript of her book with one finger.

THE FOUNDATION

AF(I) aims to reach out to arthritis patients by creating awareness about the disease, treatment options and how to cope with it in daily living. This is achieved through awareness programmes, educational literature, personal counselling and correspondence. AF(I) also extends financial assistance and practical support to needy patients. Further, the organization works to promote medical and social research in arthritis. It was launched in 1995.
