NEW DELHI: Going by its constitution, Hockey India (HI) is set to miss its election deadline yet again.

Government appointed observer to HI election SK Mendiratta said that rules did not permit holding of elections on January 29, as was scheduled.

“As per Hockey India constitution it was to give a 21-day notice before the date of the elections. Till today they have not given any notice. So if you go by the constitution, election cannot be held on January 29,” Mendiratta said.

The Hockey India is holding a meeting on Monday which also be attended by FIH representative and Mendiratta and the issue would be discussed there.

HI President A K Mattoo also conceded the possibility of delayed elections but insisted it would be held before the World Cup.

“There could be a delay of one or two days maybe. We are having a meeting on the issue next week,” Mattoo said.

The run up to the elections has already been marred by allegations and counter allegations over the affiliation issue.

Hockey Punjab has accused HI of not granting them affiliation because of the vested interest of some people in the Indian Olympic Association.
