NEW DELHI: Corporate house Sahara would continue to support the national hockey teams, at least for the next two years.

The company has agreed to sponsor both the men’s and women’s hockey teams till 2011, signalling an end to a bitter court battle with Hockey India (HI) over sponsorship issues.

It has been learnt that Sahara, HI and marketing company Leisure Sports have signed a contract covering the men’s and women’s teams which would be valid till July 14, 2011.

“The total sponsorship amount now annually works out to be Rs 3.03 crore. In addition to this, Sahara will provide kits to the teams,” sources said on Thursday. Earlier, the tie-up was limited to the men’s senior and junior teams, but as per the new contract, it would cover the women’s senior and junior teams as well.

Sources revealed that HI president AK Mattoo visited Lucknow and met Sahara chairman Subrata Roy which helped settle the dispute.
