Times of India: Hockey Karnataka score over South Central Railway

Mumbai, Nov 29 () Hockey Karnataka, Bengaluru struck a winner at the fag end to edge past South Central Railway, Secunderabad 2-1 in a Pool A league match of the 51st All India Bombay Gold Cup Hockey Tournament here today.

In the second match of the day, Punjab National Bank, Delhi, recent winners of the All India Surjit Singh Memorial Tournament, were made to work hard for their 2-1 win by a plucky Delhi XI in Pool C at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium.
Punjab National Bank scored through Satinder Dalal in the 4th minute and Sumit Toppo in the 32nd minute, while Delhi XI got the lone goal through Sahil Gill in the 5th minute.

In the first match, the Bengaluru outfit’s goalkeepers, Jagdeep Dalal and Mahan Gowda, made some brilliant saves to restrict the Railways men to just one goal.

The Railway side was dominant in the second session but was unable to beat the rival custodian even from clear scoring opportunities.

Karnataka forged ahead when Kunjappa tapped Rathan Muthanna’s forward hit from the right side of the circle in the 34th minute.

The Railways outfit finally found success when Arjun Yadav, with a measured through pass, found Mayank James in the clear and the latter trapped the ball and coolly pushed past onrushing Karnataka custodian Gowda in the 60th minute.
The Railways men continued to press for another goal but wasted the chances that came their way and paid the price as Karnataka hit the target for the second time in the final minute.

Sahil Gill did well to deflect home Vijay Kumar Maurya’s square pass from the right to help the Bengaluru side clinch a win. SSR NRB CM
