India may lose hosting rights to Champions Trophy

NEW DELHI: The International Hockey Federation has threatened to strip India of the rights to host this year’s Champions Trophy and other international events.

The international body says it does not recognize the “settlement” between two warring national federations.

The FIH says Friday “there can be only one governing body.” The FIH says it is halting discussions about tournaments in India.

The men’s Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from Dec. 1-12.

India’s sports ministry on Monday brokered a settlement in which officials of the two rival bodies – Hockey India and the Indian Hockey Federation – agreed to form a joint executive board until the end of 2012.
