KOLKATA: Hamza Mujtaba and Nitin Thimmaya scored two goals each to power Indian Oil to a 6-2 win over Karnataka XI in the quater-final league match of the 114th All-India Beighton cup hockey tournament at the SAI artificial turf on Tuesday.
In another encounter, Mumbai XI thrashed Punjab Sports 3-0 to open their campagin with a bang.
BK Muthanna converted a penalty corner in the 15th minute to help Mumbai XI draw first blood. Yuraj Balmiki (29th) and Alen D Souza (53th) slammed home one each to settle the issue.
Indian Oil drew first blood through Mujtaba in the 17th minute, while Kamlesh Parhar made it 2-0 two minutes later. Thimmaya made it 3-0 for Indian Oil when he opened his account in the 29th minute.
Karnataka bounced back to reduce the margin through Bipin Bopaiah (30th) and Samapath (34th) as the scoreline read 3-2 in the half-time.
Indian Oil took an unassailable 4-2 lead when Bikramjit Singh banged one in the 36th mintue. Mujtaba (46th) and Thimmaya (58th) scored one each to settle the issue.
