BHOPAL: Maharashtra’s campaign at the ongoing Senior National Hockey Championship came to an end on Monday. In a keenly-contested clash, the young team from Maharashtra went down fighting 3-4 against Haryana at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex.
Maharashtra opened the scoring through Rahul Shilpkar in the 15th minute. But Haryana drew parity just three minutes later when drag-flicker Sandeep Singh converted a short corner. Damandeep Singh, who has had a great tournament, put the Haryana side up with a splendid field goal only after a minute in the second half.
Shilpkar then helped Maharashtra wipe off the one-goal deficit and Deepak Lakra put the Nilesh Mane-led side ahead. But strikes in the 47th and the 50th minutes by Sandeep and Karamjit Singh respectively, sealed it for Haryana.
