Mumbai varsity win thriller
MUMBAI: University of Mumbai produced a solid second half fight back to overcome a determined Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar by a narrow 3-2 margin in a main draw, league match of the INK- Infrastructure-West Zone and Inter-Zonal Inter-University Men’s Hockey Tournament at the MHA-Mahindra stadium on Thursday.
The home side got off to a positive start when Nitin Kumar, who has been scoring consistently, found the back of the net in the fifth minute. But the Amritsar lads came back strongly and restored parity through the efforts of Prabhdeep Singh in the 19th minute as both the teams went into the break at 1-1.
However, after switching ends Amritsar led 2-1 when Manjinder Singh scored a field goal in the 40th minute. Not ready to concede easily, the Mumbai side hit back with two quick strikes to regain the lead. First Dharmendra Antil sounded the boards in the 55th minute before Sidhart Pandey converted a penalty corner in the very next minute to seal Mumbai’s victory.
