NCW asks federation for action taken report

NEW DELHI: In a day of rapid developments that saw the Indian women’s hockey coach resigning in the face of allegations of sexual harassment, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the federation for an action taken report, which is expected to be submitted in two weeks.

Expressing her dismay at news reports, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said, “I’m shocked. We have asked the sports ministry and the hockey federation for an action taken report.”

The Commission took suo moto cognisance of the incident after reports indicated that players had been sexually harassed and verbally abused by the coach.

Also, there were reports that videographer Basavraj was in the company of sex workers during trips to Canada and China. NCW has not as yet formed its own panel to conduct a probe and is likely to wait till Hockey India submits its status report on the issue.
