Netherlands to host 2014 field hockey World Cups

MONTREUX ( Switzerland): The Netherlands beat England to host the men’s and women’s field hockey World Cups in 2014.

The tournaments, now held every four years, will last from June 2-15 at The Hague.

The vote was “incredibly difficult” and “very close,” International Hockey Federation president Leandro Negre said while announcing the decision on Thursday.

He said the FIH was still keen to one day use the 2012 London Olympics legacy facility.

The Netherlands hosted both World Cups in 1998, plus the men in 1973 and the women in 1986. England held the men’s event in 1986.
