PNB beat Signal XI in Sahibzada Ajit Singh hockey

LUDHIANA: Jalwinder Singh Toni of Punjab National Bank guided his team to an easy victory against Signal XI by scoring a hat-trick of goals in the opening match of day three at Mahavir Real Estate All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy at Olympian Pirthipal Singh Hockey Stadium in Punjab Agricultural University, on Friday.

Punjab National Bank defeated their opponents by a big score of 7-1. In men category, a total of eight teams and four teams from women section would be competing against each other for prize money of Rs 4.25 lakh.

In the first match of the day, PNB defeated Signal XI with a margin of six goals (final score 7-1). For PNB, the first goal of the match was scored by Jatinder Singh by a field goal in the second minute of the match.

It seemed to be a lucky day for Jalwinder Singh Toni of PNB, who scored two goals in quick succession, in seventh and eleventh minutes of the match respectively.

Both these goals were scored when Jalwinder converted two penalty corners into goals. With the help of a field goal, Damandeep Singh of PNB scored fourth goal in 27th minute of the match.

In second half, Jalwinder Singh scored another goal in 42nd minute. Piyush Kumar of Signal XI scored the first goal for his team in the 57th minute of the match, when he converted a penalty corner into goal.

The sixth and seventh goals for PNB were scored by Jatinder Singh and team captain Navdeep Singh Nabhi in 61st and 68th minute of the match. Jalwinder Singh Toni was declared player of the match.

In the second match of the day, Indian Air Force defeated Delhi XI 4-0. The first goal for IAF was scored by Lovepreet Singh in the 24th minute of the match, followed by another field goal by Dewan in 42nd minute of play.

The third goal was played by Pardeep Singh in 49th minute and Lovepreet again sounded the board in 55th minute of the match. At the end of the match, Lovepreet was declared player of the match. In third match of the day, ONGC defeated Namdhari XI by 3-2.

The first and second goals of the match were scored by Diwakar Ram of ONGC in 8th and 16th minutes of the match. He scored both these goals with the help of penalty corners. Third goal for ONGC was scored by Tyron Peppera in 22nd minute of the match.

The first goal for Namdhari XI was scored by Karamjit Singh in 24th minute, followed by another goal for the Namdharis in 43rd minute of the match by Ramanjeet Singh. Dinesh Ikka, goalkeeper of ONGC was declared player of the match in the end.
