Punjab beat Jharkhand 4-1 to finish third in hockey nationals

BHOPAL: Prabhdeep Singh scored two goals as Punjab defeated Jharkhand 4-1 to finish third in the senior national hockey championship on Sunday.

Prabhdeep converted a penalty corner in the 10th minute. Jharkhand levelled eight minutes later through Bikesh Toppo.

Punjab stepped up the attack in the second half and struck three goals. Baljinder Singh scored through a short corner in the 43rd minute before Prabhdeep (51st) and Akashdeep Singh (66th) slotted home.

Jharkhand, which missed several opportunities in their semifinal loss to Haryana Saturday, again wasted their chances.
