Rani named best young player at Women’s Hockey World Cup
PANAJI: India’s Rani Rampal was voted best young player at the Women’s Hockey World Cup which concluded in Rosario, Argentina, on Saturday.
Rani, just 15, also finished second-highest goal scorer with seven goals remarkably comprising six field goals (the other being from a penalty corner).
Dutch penalty corner specialist Maartje Paumen topped the scorers list with 12 goals. Argentine legend and captain Luciana Aymar was voted player of the tournament after steering her team to their second World Cup title at her hometown.
Meanwhile, Argentina beat defending champions and Olympic gold medallists Netherlands 3-1 in the final which also happened to be Aymars 300th international match. England beat Germany 2-0 for the bronze medal.
