NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has provided extra security cover for all the Pakistani players participating in the HIL. This development came after the Mumbai Magicians shifted base to the Capital after being threatened by Shiv Sainiks.

“There are several international stars playing in this tournament. We cannot take chances as the image of the country is at stake,” said a senior officer in the security wing.

However, the police dismissed suggestions that specific security personnel will guard the Pakistani players. “We will keep a general vigil — whether the teams are playing at home or away,” said the officer.

Sources said the hotels where the Pak players are staying have been sanitized and only guests and hotel staff are being allowed access to the floors.

Sources added that Delhi Police is in touch with the HIL organizers regarding the various practice grounds which will be used by the teams so that full security can be provided to them.
