NEW DELHI: Ric Charlesworth’s strong reaction on four Pakistani players of his team being sent back home has not gone down well in the Indian hockey circles.
“Indian hockey respects Ric Charlesworth as a player and for his coaching acumen. But it would be appreciated if Ric stuck to his coaching manuals rather than comment on the internal matters of our country.
He may be a coaching guru to world hockey, but he is no United Nations or a political guru to lecture us on how to protest,” hockey Olympian and former India coach Joaquim Carvalho told TOI.
On Charlesworth’s remarks that as a young player he protested against apartheid, Carvalho said: “The whole world, including India, was against racial discrimination and against apartheid in South Africa.”
