CHENNAI: India captain Sardar Singh has taken world hockey by storm since he made his debut for India in 2004, but his twin brother Didar Singh hasn’t cemented his place as yet.

Didar, who first played India in 2003 Asia Cup, is now in the city to represent Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) in the ongoing All-India Murugappa Gold Cup. Ask him about Sardar and Didar doesn’t stop.

“He is a class player and whatever he has achieved today is because of his hard work and determination to make it big on the international stage. He made all of us proud,” Didar said.

Didar said he has never suffered from any inferiority complex because of Sardar’s success at the international level.

“There is no such feeling. Why should I be jealous of my brother’s success? We grew up together, played hockey together, shared the same room for years. Most of our interests are common.

As I said, I have never treated him as my rival or felt envious of his achievements. He has been doing extremely well for India and I hope he carries on with the same zeal and passion for many more years,” Didar said.

The 30-year-old is a forward cum penalty-corner specialist, a rare combination in hockey, as most of the drag-flickers are defenders.
