NAGPUR: Vidarbha girls started their campaign on a wrong foot when they were drubbed 0-3 by formidable Bihar in the Hockey India-organized National Junior Girls Hockey (Division B) Championship which got underway at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday.

In their first match of Group A, Vidarbha played well but could not score any goal. On the other hand, Bihar capitalized on their chances and slammed three goals to shatter the hopes of Vidarbha.

Ritika Soren opened the account for Bihar in the 20th minute. Four minutes later, Aparajita Kumari converted the penalty corner to make it 2-0.

After half time, Vidarbha’s Monika Nagose, Baljeet Kaur Digva, Shubhangi Harne and captain Niharika Thakur had chances to reduce the margin but poor finishing undid their efforts.

Bihar increased the margin in the dying minutes of the game through Shweta Mishram, who made no mistake in converting penalty corner.

On Monday, Vidarbha will take on Patiala in their second encounter.
