Turner scores brace as KL post 4-2 win over RR

Australian Glenn Turner struck twice for hosts Kalinga Lancers as they clincg=hed their second straight win against Ranchi Rays. Turner scored through a penalty stroke and a field goal as the Lancer defeated Ranchi 4-2 in Match number 3 of the Hockey India League 2017.



Kalinga Lancers’ custodian Abhinav Kumar Pandey didn’t disappoint his coach as he kept his nerves and made some spectacular saves of the rival team.

Penalty Corner remained a concern for both teams as neither could convert even a single PC into a goal. While Kalinga Lancers got six PCs, Ranchi got one more than the hosts.

After a goalless first half, Glenn Turner earned a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute, thanks to a sloppy tackle by Ranchi Rays defender. Turner made no mistake in taking the stroke as he fiercely put one past Tyler Lovell to give Lancers the much-needed 2-0 lead.

Turner struck again for Kalinga Lancers in the 49th minute when he converted a remarkable field goal that came off a rebound.

It wasn’t the end of the action though as Ranchi Rays made a late comeback in the 53rd minute when Sarvanjit Singh scored a field goal to make the score 4-2 but it was not enough to stop the hosts from winning their second straight match.

Kalinga Lancers’ Glenn Turner was declared Man of the Match while goalkeeper Abhinav Kumar Pandey won a prize of Rs 25,000 for being the Hero Young Achiever of the Match. The Most Entertaining Player of the Match was awarded to Christopher Ruhr of Ranchi Rays.
