Fr Agnels Multipurpose School, Vashi girls outclassed Fatima High School, Ambernath 3-1 to claim under-17 district-level inter-school hockey title. Both the teams played well and tried to gain lead in the 30-minute match, but none could manage to score the goal and as a result the match was decided through tie-breaker which was dominated by the Agnel girls.

“Our team played well but unfortunately our strikers failed to score during regulation time. We got few scoring opportunities but our players couldnt convert them, however in the tie-breaker we dominated the field,” Agnel coach Laxman Singh Thakur said after the match.

While, Sanika Thakur scored the first goal for winners, Priya Deshmukh and Geeta Seturaman added two more goals to seal the fate for Fatima girls. “Our goalkeeper Divua Bora also displayed good skills. In fact our girls played well as a team and snatched the victory,” Thakur added.

With this win, the Vashi girls have now made it to the divisional-level tournament. “We are continuing our regular practice, but since the matches are held during day and our players are not used to the hot climate, we have changed the practice timing from evening to afternoon,” Thakur informed. “I hope the things work out and girls repeat similar performance at divisional level,” Thakur concluded.
