Wednesday, January 06, 2010: Air India & Oil & Natural Gas Corporation ( ONGC ) identical wings in the league phase of the 9th All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Sponsored by Punjab & Maharashtra Co.Op.Bank Ltd organized by MHA Ltd played at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate.

Today total 13 goals were scored in two tuff outings played both fancied sides. Air India & ONGCa huff and puff to over come local challengers Western Railway and Central Railway respectively. Air India overcame C.Rly by 4-2 while ONGC edged out W.Rly by a narrow margin of 4-3.

Star studded Air India showed thank their ace drag flicker exponent Len Aiyappa who fired a triplet – all Penalty Corner conversation otherwise things could have been the other way for them. On the other hand C.Rly showed up excellent display matching the much superior rivals the airmen pulling back goals at crucial junctures at breather C.Rly were down by 0-2 score. For Airmen’s the only field goal was scored by Taranjit Singh ( 33rd minutes ) It was a excellent goal combined move by striker Dhanraj Pillay who today was brilliantly marked by C.Rly defender Vinay pal and Sameer Dad while the former relayed inside the semi circle Taranjit did not make any mistake in scoring act 4-0.

After change of end C.Rly almost over powered the Airmen’s by pulling two goals back Navneet Swarnakar ( 44th) indirect penalty corner conversion and striker Amit Singh superb reverse strike from the “D” top completely stunned the Air Men’s keeper Gurpreet Singh ( 2-4) . However in the end it was Air India who emerge victorious in the edge of the seat thriller tie ( 4-2 )

In the earlier tie of ONGC and Western Railway same action was seen at one stage ONGC were on the top leading 3-1 during lemon break but thereafter Western Rly pulled up their sleeves and made matters difficult for fancied ONGC who had keep their breath gasping till the final hooter.

Scorers for ONHC Harman Singh ( 7th minute ) Jayanta ( 14th & 47th minutes ) Karamjeet Singh ( 32nd minutes ) for Western Railway Amarjeet Singh ( 20th minutes ) Jaykaran ( 39th ) & C.Kumar ( 70th minutes ) were the goal scorers. Whatsoever in the end the final results speak the volume.

Tomorrow, Indian Oil will play Western Railways, while Namdhari XI will play ONGC.
