Women Hockey Star Subhadra Pradhan marries

ROURKELA: International women hockey star Subhadra Pradhan has tied nuptial knot with Pradip Kumar Naik on 16th April, 2009 at her native village Saunamara of Sundargarh district of Orissa.

The marriage was solemnized through vedic rituals on the night of 16th April. Her father S.S.Pradhan did the ‘Kanyadaan’. Mr.Pradip Naik is working as flight engineer with HAL, Bangalore. Due to engagements in camps her player-friends could not attend the marriage. Dilip Tirkey, the legendry defender, who also belongs to Saunamara village, has sent his best wishes to Subhadra.

Subhadra Pradhan, a product of famed Panposh Hockey Hostel (Rourkela), is employed with South Eastern Railway, Ranchi.

She broke into the national team in 2000 as a member of the junior team. In 2003 she found a place in the senior team and since then she has been a regular member of the team. She has represented India in Junior World Cup twice, in 2001 and 2005. Her other participation include 2006 Madrid World Cup, Afro-Asian Games (2003), Commonwealth Games (2006), Doha Asian Games (2006), besides many other Tests and invitational tours.

Subhadra has been conferred with the prestigious Eklavya Award in 2006. Talking with this correspondent about her future plans, Subhadra said that she is not contemplating retirement now.

“I will like to play for the country another say at least 3 or 4 years”.
