Women huff and puffs for 2-1; men majestic 4-0

Indian men and women posted contrasting victories today at the historic Major Dhyan Chand National stadium.

Asunta Lakra’s girls huffed and puffed before emerging victors against Azerbaijan (2-1). Yesterday, they won the first match 3-0.

Little later in the day, Indian men romped home a fluent 4-0 victory over South Africa.

Shivender Singh scored first and then Indian posted two more goals to change the side with a one-sided 3-0.

In the second half, where the Africans showed more vigour and vitality, Indian added one more.

Debutant SK Uthappa scored the only goal of the second half.

Earlier, Ritu Rani set the course for the hosts early in the proceedings (18th min), but within five minutes India conceded a goal too. Gyeonga Kim was the scorer. After the change over of sides the issue of winner was decided with a goal from Saba Anjum (41st min).

sir you’ve mentioned in your latest post that tomorrow is a rest day, but on the official site of hockey India , the schedule shows there is a match tomorrow.

Tuesday is rest day only for women. Men play at 17 hrs which will be telecast Live by Doordarsan
