Event coverage on worldhockey.org, the International Hockey Federation’s
website, attracted a record number of visitors, increasing web traffic
statistics, during the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, held in March
this year.

The Men’s Olympic Qualifier, held in Madrid, Spain 2 – 13 March pulled an
online crowd of 95,008 total unique visits, averaging out at 7,917 unique
visits to WorldHockey.org per day. The Women’s Olympic Qualifier, held 19 –
28 March in Auckland, New Zealand, saw a total of 41,028 total unique
visits – an average of 4,102 unique visits per day to the website.

Live online text commentary provided real-time coverage of the matches,
while a daily photograph gallery illustrated highlights of the day’s play.
Coupled with statistics and the official match report sheets, plus new
features like player and coach profiles, the WorldHockey.org coverage of
these top tournaments was comprehensive and popular. Worldhockey.org’s
events coverage is set to continue for the biggest hockey event of the year,
the XVIII Olympic Games held in Athens this August.

Peter Cohen, Hon. Secretary General of the FIH commented, ”The excellent
figures for website traffic to WorldHockey.org indicate that the our event
coverage is widely used by hockey fans all over the world.”
