WSH: Former players meet Sports Minister

A host of Olympians and former international met Sports Minister Ajay Maken and pleaded with him to give players freedom to choose to play in the forthcoming World Series Hockey

Those who made the representation include Zafar Iqbal Vasudevean Baskaran Mohinder Pal Singh, Harendra Singh Vineet Kumar, Ashish Ballal, Baldev Singh, Gundeep Kumar Baljit Sing Saini, Sanjeev Kumar and others.

According to a player part of the delegation said that the Minister was very happy and assured that he will see that current Indian players are not pressurized by Hockey India. The former players requested minister that the players should be allowed choose their own, without coming under the undue pressure of FIH.

“The minister is happy hockey players are getting good money”, a former player said.

Most of the player of the delegation is part of WSH, being in the technical committee or as coach with the franchise teams.

Hockey India, in support with FIH, is opposing the WSH and has been accused of pressuring current national players from taking part in the WSH.

The WSH is starting in a week from now.
